LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II

On Thursday, 8th September, the longest reigning monarch in Britain’s history passed away. She was in her night season, and death was always imminent in that season. Queen Elizabeth II reigned for 70 years and 214 days. She was a fantastic woman who left a great legacy for the British people and the world.

Permit me to use this piece to thank God for her life and pray for her family and nation. I also stand as watchmen to pray for the new King and Prime Minister.

Most importantly, we must take lessons from her well-lived life and emulate such values in this world and our time.

We all have to think of how we want to be remembered. And in your lifetime, live in a way that will positively affect those around you. Below are ten (10) key lessons, we can learn from the rich legacy she has left for the United Kingdom and beyond

1. Her faith: What I loved most about this remarkable woman was her faith in God and Christ. In her lifetime, she stood for God. She was the defender of the Christian faith that defined this nation. She recently said, “The teachings of Jesus have been the bedrock of my faith.”

In the 1950s, when the then Tele-Evangelist Billy Graham came to this nation, it was recorded that the queen would seek a private audience with Him to learn more about Christ and strengthen her faith.

2. Her prayer life: It is said that the queen prayed every night before bed and attended Church every Sunday. I believe that her prayer for this nation has kept this nation amid their disobedience to God.1 Thessalonians 5:17, Colossians 4:2, Ephesians 6:18

To me, she was a Prophetess. How she knew her days were ending and moved to Balmoral (her favourite place) days before her passing, I guess, will remain a mystery.

Secondly, how her prayers saved this country from being ruled by a foreigner who does not know the God she served, coupled with staying alive to give the seal of approval to Liz Trust as the new prime minister before dying a day after, will also remain a mystery.

But for us who are watchmen in prayer, we will understand that she was an overseer over this nation.

3. Grace: The grace of God was evident in her life. I believe she was a woman who had grace in view all her life according to Romans 12:1. It takes grace to become the longest-serving Monarch in British history.

Ernest Hemingway once described courage as “grace under pressure.”

To be head of state in 15 realms and head of the Commonwealth (54 nations) is pressure. Yet because of God’s grace, she did not fail in her duties.

4. Her steadfastness: Through wars, civil disturbances, Political turmoils, family woes, and more, she remained steadfast. 1 Corinthians 15:58

5. Purpose: She defined her purpose early and set herself to fulfill it. A few years before becoming a queen, Elizabeth made a vow. She said:

I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

Later, during her 25th year of reign, she mentioned:

“When I was 21, I pledged my life to the service of our people, and I asked for God’s help to make good that vow. Although that vow was made in my salad days, when I was green in judgment, I do not regret nor retract one word of it.”

6. Leadership and service: She was a definition of the true meaning of Servant Leadership. Her purpose alone made her a leader to the world. Like Christ, she sought to serve. Mark 10:45 (NLT)  “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

7. Giving: The mystery in life is this; one has to find himself and lose it to the world. As I said last week, life is measured by how much you give. John 3:16

In her lifetime, she helped raise an estimated 2 Billion dollars and supported 600 charities.

8. Be Open to change: In 1961, Queen Elizabeth took to the floor to dance with Kwame Nkrumah, King of Ghana. Dancing with a Black man in 1961 was no minor deal. She also fought (albeit behind the scenes) against South African apartheid when Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher did not come out against it.

Elizabeth II has never stopped learning and adapting.

“Change has become a constant,” she remarked in 2002. “The way we embrace it defines our future.”

9. Faithfulness in marriage: The queen could not have achieved so much without her husband, Prince Phillip. Elizabeth also kept the vows she made on her wedding day in 1947, remaining married to Philip Mountbatten for 73 years until his death in 2021.

In an age in which disloyalty and divorce are common, she never flagged or faltered in her devotion to her husband. On celebrating her Golden Jubilee, she called the prince my strength and stay.” Theirs was a long marriage based on love and friendship that should inspire all wedded couples.

Let marriage be held in honor (esteemed worthy, precious, of great price, and especially dear) in all things. And thus let the marriage bed be undefiled (kept undishonored); for God will judge and punish the unchaste [all guilty of sexual vice] and adulterous.” Hebrews 13:4 (AMPC)

10. Prayer for the new King, Prime Minister, and the nation. The atmosphere is shifted with the death of the queen. She has left a legacy that needs to continue. Pray for wisdom for those in authority now to learn from the queen and emulate these lessons from her.

MIND YOUR HEALTH (MENTAL HEALTH)

Mental health issues are on the rise in most part of the world today.
In the UK alone, we lose around 6,000 people a year to suicide related issues. This means, We lose a man to suicide in this country (UK) every 90 minutes.

You can only imagine the human, social and economic impact this is having in families, schools, workplaces and communities. The damage is enormous.

We lose a man to suicide in this country (UK) every 90 minutes.

With the advancements in technology, medicine, and communication in the last 50 years, one cannot fathom but ask,
1. Why in the midst of improvement in socio economic structures, there are so much problems, instead of making life easier.

2. Why do we seem to be making more robot’s and machines but we cannot control our minds and lives?

I will leave you to share your thoughts on these questions and more but this is what I will say, our modern day systems are designed to train people to live life from the ‘outside in’ whereas man is created to live life from the ‘inside out.’

BECOMING A PERSON OF DISCOVERY

Discovery is important for people that are on the road to intentional growth. It is accepting constructive criticism and applying a different perception that may help your condition. The world is changing so fast nowadays. There are a lot of discoveries in many aspects of life during a short time. The one who wants to gain more control over his life needs to be updated always.

The greatest among you must be like a child.

The key to learning is finding out more about what you don’t know and making a commitment daily to learn, grow, meet people and keep learning. Jesus Christ one day heard His disciples arguing among themselves about who was the greatest among them. Upon hearing them, he called them and said this to them, “The greatest among you must be like a child.”

By saying this, what He meant was not for one to possess the spirit of a child but gave us one of the key principles and advice you do not have to forget from today. To become a person of discovery, one must have the mindset of a child.

When you were a child, you honestly thought your dad was the richest man on earth. You believed that whatever you wanted, he would buy for you. Today I am a dad and I see the same thing in the eyes and mind of my children. Sometimes I do not have the means but when I see their level of confidence and belief in me, I try hard never to disappoint them.

The more that you know, the more that you know that you don’t know and the more that you know that you don’t know, the more that you know that you want to know.

This is the mindset we ought to have; to see opportunities and think without limits. One that seeks to discover and agrees that I don’t know it all but willing to learn and improve. It was John Maxwell that said, “The more that you know, the more that you know that you don’t know and the more that you know that you don’t know, the more that you know that you want to know.”

In other words, to influence others, you must become a person of discovery. Everything that makes or will make mankind great is covered. For anyone to ever dream of becoming great requires you to uncover what is covered. Greatness is not hidden from you but for you and it is only people of discovery who find it and move forward to maximise it.

Greatness is not hidden from you but for you and it is only people of discovery who find it and move forward to maximise it.

Make a choice today to become a person of discovery. Drink from good books, learn from others but don’t become them. Become who you are created to be because you are unique and special. No matter who you want to become today or in the future, it begins with this simple yet powerful principle; become a person of discovery.

PURPOSELESSNESS

Have you noticed how from industrialised nations to third world countries, the world has become an incubator of stress, frustration, depression and emptiness? We are failing today because of PURPOSELESSNESS; a situation where people fail to discover and live out Gods original purpose for their lives.

The value of life decreases and the quality of existence diminishes when a generation loses its sense of destiny and purpose.

Maybe these research findings will help to wake you up.

In a study in a U.S university, when sixty students were asked why they had attempted suicide, 85% said the reason why they had was that life seemed meaningless. More importantly, however, was that 93% percent of this student who suffered this lack of primary purpose were from socially active, achieving academically and on good terms with their families. (Richard Leider 2007).

This goes to mean that, the problem in this generation is not a means of living but a meaning to live for.

In another study in the U.K, it has been discovered that life is meaningless for three in ten young people. If this is true, then the future of our economies and nations are in serious trouble.

Recently, another research in the U.K suggests that only 30%-40% of people love what they do daily. This means that almost 60% or even more people do not love their jobs and this is a serious problem. If people do not love their job and only do it because of money or materialistic purposes, then what kind of nations or life are we building?

Note that I am not emphasising that money is not good. What I mean is there is something that comes before money; there are things money cannot buy.

The main problem is PURPOSELESSNESS. This is the kind of world you live in today whether you believe it or not. I want you to personally ask yourself sincerely this question;

  • DO I LOVE WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING?

We need work and not Job. When what you do is work and not seen as a job, you do things in love before any other thing. This is why people need to locate their primary purpose as against secondary ones.

Based on various researches from Europe to America and the rest of the world, you will discover some of the reasons why this generation is failing. Some of the reasons for this rust out syndrome you will discover in this world today. I will list them for the purpose of this article but encourage readers to get hold of one of my books and get more information.

  • Failure to connect with our Maker
  • Change in worldview
  • Faulty path reliance
  • Ignorance
  • Focusing on weakness instead of strength

And much more.

To understand your purpose, one needs to also comprehend what purpose is not. What do I mean you may ask?

  • Purpose is not your wishful thinking
  • Purpose is not your six to six kind of job (death)
  • Purpose is not manipulating people
  • Purpose is not in your appointments
  • Purpose is not your destiny
  • Purpose is not looking for back doors when life becomes tough.

Why fail while still alive. As long as you are still breathing on this planet, you have a purpose ready to be discovered because you are missing in action until you do. To find more details to these points above, contact us or purchase a copy of the book Alive for a Purpose.”

FIVE (5) Key Principles To Knowing Your Purpose.

In a commencement address at Princeton, future American President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed,

“We live in an age disturbed, confused, bewildered, afraid of its own forces, in search not merely of its road but even of its direction. There are many voices of counsel, but few voices of vision; there are much excitement and feverish activity, but a little concert of thoughtful PURPOSE. We are distressed by our ungoverned, undirected energies and do many things, but nothing long. It is our duty to FIND OURSELVES.”

If this generation and in fact in this dispensation, many people are struggling to live the kind of purpose, then the most important question still remains, how do we find or discover this original purpose?

Finding purpose is finding your strength and living it is a whole new level that will cause success in your life. Many people make the mistake of making money as their primary means of success. To make a difference in this life, it is paramount to rediscover that true success is knowing your primary purpose, growing to your maximum potential in life and sowing seeds that will benefit others.

Therefore, if you are prepared to know your purpose in life, then read carefully this chapter. This short article will guide you through five key principles you can begin to practice in your life to realise your purpose. Let’s run through these quickly,

  1. Get back to the source (Creator):

It is not a mistake that everything that works in life is connected, so if your life is not working then you need to first connect to the source (God). No matter how difficult life may be, God still has a plan, peace and an expected end for you. He is the first you need in your life.

  1. The Power of Discovery: This is the power of purpose. Your ability to uncover what is covered. Just as everything valuable in life is hidden, (Gold, oil, chair), so is your purpose in life.

Your primary calling in life is usually connected to your Creativity, Talents, Solitude and Listening.

You will find detailed knowledge about these principles from the what, why and how to make these work in your life today.

  1. Listening to your Heart: Here, the emphasis is not on your organ but inner man. The place that can be desperately wicked but on the other hand can be very rewarding. For you to find your purpose in life, there should be an alignment with your heart, so as God speaks to your inner man, you will never go wrong by following its direction.
  2. Becoming a Contrarian: Beloved, a person who views life backwards is a contrarian and God is one. If you to find your purpose in life, you must start to think and act like your maker. Your difficulties, pain and failures all shape your tomorrow before God but until you begin to partake in His Divine nature, you will keep on blaming issues and this will not get you anywhere.
  3. Finally, you will know how maximising time in life is necessary for discovering and fulfilling your purpose in life. We must invest time to get the most success and significance.

Everyone has been created for a purpose. I especially share in my book Alive For A Purpose, how I discovered my purpose and today fulfilling it to my generation. By following these principles and even more, I am positive that you too will make a great impact on your generation.

Be Passionate

To excel at something, you must be passionate about it. If you do not wake up every day with a great passion for your work, you will be miserable.

Though this words may be strong, permit me to use them for the purpose of influencing you into something greater. Besides, if we do not share the truth to ourselves, we will only be at disadvantage.

Today, many of us will do anything just for the sake of money only to find out that money is not everything. How many people really wake up to fulfil their passion? Why not do something that you naturally love doing and earn the money anyway. This is my candid advice to you.

David Filo, co-Founder of Yahoo Inc., said this, “We started Yahoo in about April 1994. It started out as a way for us to keep track of the things that we were interested in.”

“The world will belong to passionate, driven leaders, people who do not only have enormous amounts of energy but who can energise those whom they lead.Jack Welch

Permit me to use this medium to define to you what passion is. If passion is vital to your success and yet many people do not know it, then I believe, you will agree with me for us to delve into its meaning and significance.

  1. It is what makes things happen in life.                                                                                                    A commitment to passion guarantees success in everything you do in life. Even the impossible things suddenly or over time become possible when you passionately commit to something that you love to do and do because you love.

      2. It is what sustains your gifts and talent and your dreams:                                                              Gifts and talents are mostly not enough without passion. Always remember that a passionate person with little talent will succeed beyond a very talented person with no or little passion. It is not the gift that sustains you rather your passion.

      3. It is what makes the difference among many people.                                                                       This is very true. What usually differentiate people whether in the workplace or life, in general, is the passion that drives them. This is why employers today seek candidates with skills beyond certificates. If you are to land that dream job, check your passion level. Do not do something just because of the financial reward you may get. Rather, be involved in something you are passionate about and be a difference maker.

  1. It is the fuel that fires and energises you to have the will to win against all odds.                            It keeps you going while others quit. It pushes you through tough seasons. This is why it is fondly said when the going gets tough, and the tough gets going. You are tough because of the level of passion you carry. The passionate man does not stop until he has succeeded. Passion is like fire in the bones of its carrier and it is what drives you on until you win.
  2. It is what makes you love what you do and do what you love.                                                             I love what John Maxwell says,

“Find something you like to do so much that you would gladly do it for nothing and if you learn to do it well, someday people will be happy to pay you for it.”

This is one of the powerful quotes that has changed my life and continue to shape me for greater things. If you are doing something you are not passionate about, I can only encourage you to stop before it stops you. When you are doing something that you love and are passionate about, it is not work. It is fun and pleasure.

  1. It is what drives you to achieve excellence.                                                                                      Only passion drives excellence. Why? Because it brings out the very best in you. I promise you, you will stop at nothing until you strike excellence.

Jon Krakauer, mountaineer and writer said something you should not forget from today. He said, “Hours slide by like minutes. The accumulated clutter of day to day existence, the lapses of conscience, the unpaid bills, the bungled opportunities, the dust under the couch, the inescapable prison of your genes all of it is temporarily forgotten, crowded from your thoughts by an overpowering clarity of purpose by the seriousness of the task at hand.”

Passion, therefore, is the key to excellence.

True passion is almost like a spiritual experience.

Finally, as I end, remember that money is not everything. Do not let it be your primary pursuit. Be passionate about something worthwhile and pursue it with all your might and the results of success shall be yours.

FOLLOW YOUR STAR

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

We are all born stars. We may all not be in the limelight; however, we can all shine. The challenge however is, it remains your responsibility to follow your star or act. I love the word responsibility because I think it is a great word.

In my book, The Four Quadrants to Greatness, I explain that the word responsibility can be broken into two words, response and ability. This simply means we all possess the ability to shine, we must just respond to it.

With this in mind, the responsibility you have is to believe that you are born to shine and that you are unique with special qualities. There is a primary purpose for your existence and that you are not a mistake.  I do not slightly find it a coincident that all great men and women always believed that they were born to be great.

The second responsibility you have is to discover your star. Uncover what is covered in your life; uncover your uniqueness, gifts and passions. Why should I uncover my star if I am to be great anyway? The answer is simply because, discovering your star is the most important thing in your life and God hides it for you to find. Go d does not hide from you but for you to discover.

The third responsibility after finding your star is to be patient and wait. Many people loose their chance to greatness because they chase the first star that arises. No, this is wrong. When you find your star, wait patiently, prepare yourself, dedicate to service and seek to educate yourself in the area of your star.

Education is only effective after discovering your star. Like someone said, wait patiently, it will not rise early. It will not rise late. It will rise at the right time.

Finally, after careful preparation coupled with the right maturity, follow your star. When the right time has come to follow your star, you will be filled with a burning passion and a conviction in your heart and spirit that tells you it is the right time. Once you begin to follow and fulfil it, keep focus, connect with the right people and keep moving.

I wish you all the best.
